Q:

What does (Ollier) Klippel Trénaunay (Parkes) (Weber) Syndrome mean? What's with all the parenthesis???

A:

That disorder has many variations on the name. It's called Ollier Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome, Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, Parkes Weber Syndrome, etc. The parenthesis mean that that word is sometimes used in the disorder's name - words not in parenthesis are almost always used in the name (if there is a version of the name that doesn't use those "always used" words, like Parkes Weber Syndrome, it will be listed separately after the name).

Q:

What does Alport Syndrome (Alport Deafness-Nephropathy, [Deafness/Hearing Loss]-Nephritis Syndrome, Dickinson Syndrome) mean?

A:

It means this disorder is called Alport Syndrome, Alport Deafness-Nephropathy, Deafness-Nephritis Syndrome, Hearing Loss-Nephritis Syndrome, and Dickinson Syndrome

Q:

I can't find my disorder listed - what can I do to find information on it? Try search at bdid.com or the web.

Q:

What do the little flags mean?

A:

If there is a flag beside a link, it means that that website includes content in English and the language of the country of that flag, or just the langauge of the country of that flag.

Q:

Why did my doctor call the disorder one thing, but when I look it up on your site it's listed under a different name?

A:

An example of this is Splenic Agenesis Syndrome - when you look it up by that name, it tells you to look at Asplenia Syndrome instead. That doesn't mean that Asplenia Syndrome is the "proper" or "right" name, it's just the one we've chosen to list the links under. We have different reasons for picking one name over another - sometimes it's the more common name, sometimes it's an easier name, sometimes it's the more descriptive name, and if all else fails, we pick the name that comes first alphabetically.
