"My son Sascha was born in Kiev on the 20th of February 1989...
.
It was terrible for me to look at my son without a half of leg. We learned that our son has Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency. In 10 days after his birth we tried to find a doctor who could help. I have discussed the problem with doctors but no one wanted to help us. One of them advised me to wait until Sascha will be 6 years old. But it is impossible to live during all these years and see that your baby cannot walk and may be never walk at all.

That was the time when we almost lost our hope, but fortunately from my friends I heard about a doctor who helps children with PFFD. I called his office and soon we had a consultation. The doctor explained to us that the problem is really serious and our son needs to have number of surgeries to correct the shorter leg. He told us that if my son did not have the surgery then at the age of 18-20 years old the difference between his legs would be nearly one foot. What could we do?
.
We agreed to have the first surgery with help of the unknown to us Ilizarov method and iron fixators. At the beginning I felt not so good about the look of my son's leg but soon I got used to his fixator. With the first lengthening we stayed 3 months in the clinic and the lengthening was 8 cm.

Sum total my son has had three lengthenings, another 8 cm, and now is standing on his own, walking without any expansions, skiing and does not differ from other children.

I am so happy now and thank the doctor for his help. Soon we have another surgery and lengthening...
