IDENTICAL TWINS: Twins that develop from a simple fertilized egg in a single placental sack. Such twins are the same sex and usually resemble one another closely.
IDIOPATHIC: Disorder of unknown cause.
ILIOSTOMY: Surgical incision creating an artificial opening into the ileum, the lower part of the small intestine.
IMMUNE: Protected against infection.
IMPERFORATE: Without an opening or aperture.
IN UTERO: Within the womb.
INCIDENCE: How often a disease occurs; the number of new cases of a disease among a certain group of people for a certain period of time.
INCISOR: Any of the four front teeth in either the upper or lower jaw.
INFLAMMATION: A by-product of the immune response, the body's protective reaction of tissue to injury or infection, characterized by redness, pain, swelling, heat, and sometimes impaired function.
INFUSION: 1. Product that results when a drug or herb is steeped to extract its medicinal properties, sometimes referred to as a tea.
2. Slow and/or prolonged intravenous delivery of a drug or fluids.
INGUINAL: Relating or belonging to the groin.
INSULIN: A hormone produced by the pancreas.
INTER-: Prefix meaning between, among.
INTRA-: Prefix meaning inside or within.
INTRAEPITHELIAL: Within the layer of cells that forms the surface or lining of an organ.
INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE: The pressure of fluid within your eyeball.
INTRAPERITONEAL: Within the peritoneal cavity, the area that contains the abdominal organs.
INVOLUNTARY: Not controlled through will.
IRIDOCYCLITIS: Inflammation of the iris and ciliary body in the eye.
